–Nash HuseinHow sciatica escalates
Sciatica is pain, numbness, or tingling that radiates from the lower back through the buttock and down the leg — what many patients describe as lower back and leg pain, or pain down the leg — caused by irritation or compression of the sciatic nerve itself. Not all leg pain is sciatica: pain confined to the muscles or joints without that nerve involvement is a different picture, which is exactly what an evaluation is for. Possible causes include a herniated disc or spinal stenosis that irritates or compresses a nerve root, whether symptoms followed an impact or developed over time. After a car accident, Dr. Abe Nasser evaluates possible musculoskeletal contributors and documents relevant findings for a PIP claim when applicable.
Understand Sciatica
A herniated or bulging disc pressing directly on the nerve root. The most common cause.
Spinal stenosis narrows the canal and compresses the nerve. More common with age.
The piriformis muscle compresses the nerve — not a disc issue. Common in athletes and people who sit all day.
Nerve root compression specifically at L4–L5 or L5–S1. The clinical diagnosis behind most sciatica cases — when a doctor says "sciatica," this is usually what they mean.

How we treat

1 hr | Contact us 954-282-1801
The piriformis and surrounding muscles often tighten around the sciatic nerve, adding to the pain. The Graston tool releases that tension directly, similar to a deep massage focused on the area compressing the nerve.

When exam findings suggest restricted lower-spine joint motion contributes to symptoms, Dr. Abe may include a controlled adjustment as part of the care plan.

When a disc or narrowing around a nerve may contribute to sciatica symptoms, controlled traction can be considered after evaluation for suitability.

Was this from an accident?
A collision can aggravate the lower back and may contribute to radiating leg symptoms. Florida PIP generally requires initial services and care within 14 days of a motor vehicle accident.
