–Nash HuseinUnderstanding TMJ trauma
TMJ (temporomandibular joint) dysfunction is pain, tightness, or clicking in the jaw joint and the muscles that move it. A car accident can strain the joint when the jaw is clenched tight during impact, and the same clenching pattern can build up over weeks afterward without any single moment you'd point to. Because the jaw shares muscles and nerves with the neck, TMJ symptoms often overlap with headaches or neck pain — an evaluation helps determine which structure is actually driving the pain. Florida gives you 14 days to get evaluated and protect your PIP benefits (Fla. Stat. § 627.736) if a collision was involved.
